Update

by C

K and I probably won’t be posting for awhile, we need some time to get our shit sorted out after graduation and all that, I need to get feminism off the mind for a little while. But I doubt the 1…2..3..4..5 people who read this blog actually give a shit.

What Porn Has Taught Me

by C

Porn has taught me that men can’t be trusted, if they show an interest in me, it’s merely sexual and nothing else. It has taught me that men use manipulation and tricks to get what they want. Porn has taught me that men are not human beings capable of emotion and empathy but just a dick and balls. They enjoy and get off on any pain I feel or that they are inflicting. Porn has shown me that men don’t have any humanity but just a constant sex drive. It has taught me that if men are not aggressive and strong then they are just pussies and not worth any of my time. That men are replaceable because they are all the same. That muscles and a big dick are the two most attractive attributes and that the men I meet will rarely measures up to these standards. It has taught me that men are biologically pedophiles and rapists. That the older men are always disgusting and perverted and the uglier the man is the more willing he is to hurt and humiliate me. Men are always horny and have no capabilities for thought beyond sex.

Porn has taught me that sex and my body are things I should use to manipulate men. It has taught me that if I allow myself to be abused I will eventually like it. That this abuse gets men off and should therefore get me off. I have learned that the older I get the more worthless I am. That the dirtier the sex the more I will like it. That I should accept getting spit on, slapped, choked, peed, and punched and that I should like it. I should enjoy the fact that men think of me as a toilet. Porn has taught me that sex is a performance and that I am abnormal if I don’t enjoy anal or blowjobs. That sex is not something intimate but public, that violence and sex are one in the same. I have learned that men and women are inherently different in every way and that this can’t be changed.

Porn has taught me a lot of things, I learned and internalized all this before the age of 16. Young boys and men aren’t the only ones getting lessons from porn, young girls are too as well as the rest of the population. Porn is now completely mainstream, people need to realize how this is changing our perceptions of the opposite sex and completely de-sexualising sex.

C’s Cool Shit of the Week: Akon Getting His Pompous Ass Handed to Him

by C

I fucking hate Akon. His music is shit and he likes to simulate rape on stage. If you haven’t seen that video I have no idea where you would find it but I suggest not looking it up. The story was basically this, at a concert Akon tells all his female fans that he’s having a dance competition and the winner will go to Africa, so obviously a large group of girls get up on stage willing to dance. The dancing is wonderfully stripper-esque and couldn’t even be called dancing really, just a lot of grinding and thrusting. So the girl who danced the most like a stripper won, of course. But the prize wasn’t actually a trip to Africa it was a chance to dance with Akon because he is from Africa? Or some fucked up thing like that I didn’t get the logic in it but the main thing is that he lied to get the girls up there. But it doesn’t end there, he starts “dancing” with the girl. He ends up getting so rough with her and humping her so vigorously that she is screaming for help and security eventually pulls her offstage. Now, normally this wouldn’t get attention apparently because the big shocker for the news media and press was that she was 14. If she was 18, it probably wouldn’t have gotten any coverage.

Anyways, that happened like a year ago or something and everyone has kind of forgotten that Akon is an asshole. But last week he was doing a show in Dubai, which apparently has very strict morality laws, and Akon just had an uncontrollable urge to take off his shirt and show off his oh-so amazing muscles, in which the security pounces on him to cover him up. Ha!

I heard that on the radio this morning and thought it was fucking awesome because Akon’s an asshole and no one wants to see his fucking body and because too often do you hear about female artists having to cover up because of different country’s morality policies. Fuck yeah and fuck you Akon!

Feminism Exposed

by K

Amy Richards, co founder of the Third Wave organization, in an interview on Talk of The Nation, defined the word feminism as “the movement that ensures that each individual has enough information to make informed choices about their lives”. The feminist movement isn’t about forcing someone into making a certain decision in their life but wanting everyone to have the kind of information they need to make a well informed choice, whether it is about abortion or being a stay at home mother. The word feminist has changed over the years for women everywhere, it no longer has the same meaning that the founders of feminism, Gloria Steinem or Betty Friedan, had in mind. To some, feminism has no relevance to today, they believe that women are now fully empowered and liberated from suffrage and that feminism is no longer needed. So, has the feminist movement died or has our definition of liberation and empowerment changed from what it meant in the sixties?

In today’s society, we live in a world where when you turn on the TV you see young females cheering while taking off their shirts for Girls Gone Wild, lining up to work at bars like Hooters, or while walking down the street we are seeing girls wearing the bunny logo. What happened to the time where females were fighting for their right to vote, getting birth control approved, getting Congress to pass the Equal Pay Act that would make sure that women would get paid the same as a man for doing the same job, and winning the fight to legalize abortion? It wasn’t that long ago that the feminist movement was happening across the country, but we’ve gotten to a point in our society where our definition of what empowerment and liberation is has changed to much, that we need to sit back and realize that we haven’t come that far.

Sex and the City depicts a new kind of feminism, one that is so far from what feminism was supposed to be about. This type of feminism is all about the new liberated woman, the type of woman a lot of young females idolize. This kind of woman get what she wants in life by doing whatever she has to, is unapologetically selfish, irreverent, is independently wealthy, sleeps with as many strangers as she can, and wears six inch heels. In this scenario the woman is the epitome of what the stereotypcial male fantasy is; this is why it appeals to so many women today. Sex and the City targets the kind of women whose desire is to be every male’s fantasy, and becoming this fantasy has some major benefits; you get some serious power and control. Power is something that many women strive for whether it is through their career or spinning on a pole, it is something that women have little access to and will do almost anything to gain.

The women who strive for the kind of false empowerment shown on television not only send the wrong message to the world about how women are supposed to act, and sabotaging other women’s efforts to make the world a safer and better place for women, but are also giving young boys a distorted image of what to expect from the women in their lives.

In the book Female Chauvinist Pigs: Women and the Rise of Raunch Culture, the author, Ariel Levy, compares women objectifying themselves with the story of Uncle Tom’s Cabin. In the story written by Harriet Beecher Stowe, the author talks about the issue of race and slavery in our world. In the novel, there were characters who, to achieve success and acceptance in the world “acted white”. The character Tom, who is a slave, fully accepts being a slave and the oppression that rbings. Because Tom accepts his situation and there is no chance that he will run away, he doesn’t need to be shackled and has gained the trust of his master. From the society Tom has grown up in since he was a child, he has come to believe that he is actually property, an object that his owner can do whatever he sees fit. This idea is so entrenched into his being that the idea of running away would be like robbing his owner. Tom doesn’t just accept his oppression, but continuously tries to gain his oppressors love and affection, thus conforming to what his master’s idea is of what he represents.

There are definite parallels that can be drawn from this story and the issue of women acting like men and trying to gain favour with men. Ariel Levy explained how, like in the story of Uncle Tom’s Cabin, women consistently try to act in the way men feel that they should, either to get ahead in thw world or they have completely internalized the idea that this is where they beling and this is how they should act. To do this women will do one of two things, they will either “act like a man”, making derogatory comments about a woman’s body, and bragging about who is more of a man or women. Another way women could act is, acting like the stereotypical woman, having huge breasts and dressing scantily clad. These are the reasons why it is not surprising to find out that a woman is the CEO of Playboy and that Cosmopolitan magazine is written by and for women.

Women are always performing for men to prove themselves in a world where they are told that their only value is in their appearance. If women only knew that empowerment means knowing that each of us are more than adequate in all so many aspects of our lives, and that we don’t need someone elses approval, to realize this we would all be happier, and knowing this is real empowerment, not going to a strip cardio class or getting implants.

Gods, Wads, and Tila Tequila Part 2

by C

Wads

This is the second part of my series explaining my theories on why women are still oppressed today.

We all know that power is a good thing, with power comes money and unfortunately money seems to be the driving point of every big decision made in our part of the world today. Greed is good, right? To keep power there needs to be some sort of oppression and exploitation. Thus, the oppression of women, the largest group to be oppressed EVER, pretty impressive, I think that deserves a pat on the back. But who gets that pat on the back? Who gets the blame for keeping this oppression going strong for the past century? Big companies. Well, they get help from lots of other places too, of course, like God and the government, but no one benefits more financially from the oppression of women than big companies.

Big companies don’t really deserve a pat on the back because they didn’t create the social roles that keep women in their placeĀ  they just enforce them…and enforce them…and enforce them. It’s an incredibly non-creative way to make money but nothing works better than taking old ideals and profiting off them. So for example, look at one of the rules, we’ll take rule #4 of Beauty which is you must not have any blemishes, it’s quite simple for companies to profit off this, I’m sure anyone with half a brain could figure out how to make money out of that. Let’s say a company puts out a new acne cream or foundation for acne or what the fuck ever they do. This obviously helps women follow rule #4, yay! But acne creams are big on putting teenagers on dates in their ads, then the teenagers day is somehow ruined because they have acne. Say what? That’s rule #2 of Relationships! You mean if you buy this acne cream you’ll be beautiful and beauty means popularity so you’ll get a boyfriend, yay! I need this acne cream right now. It’s idiotic that someone would be so arrogant to think that would work, but even more idiotic that it actually does work.

Everyone knows that companies aren’t just selling products but a lifestyle. They do this because when you decide what norms and values of a culture are important, that gives you an incredible amount of power (and let’s not forget control) as soon as you have that, you can tell people what to do and when to do it.

Although what big companies did wasn’t creative, it was smart. They took the roles (of virgin/mother and whore which I talked about in the first part) which weren’t based on materialism at all and pushed materialism into these roles so much so that you can’t see these roles without the materialism aspect to it. For example, the social role of mother is so based upon washers, dryers, kids snacks, toys, cleaning products, and other things that to split the two is near impossible. It goes the same way for the whore aspect, it is so based upon makeup and beauty products along with cosmetic surgery that it’s difficult to imagine this role without any of that. With this, companies have created a new super role which for years has been only for the advantage of men and was now working towards company bigwigs’ advantage specifically. To get rid of this type of super role you would have to also get rid of materialism.

In companies eyes true equality has been reached, they don’t see male or female and they don’t care, we are all just consumers, walking money. But as I said before, to keep power exploitation needs to take place, they aren’t going to exploit and oppress all of North America because there would be obvious rebellion and boycotting. They chose women, because as it stands now, women have no legitimate power against big companies, they are easy to exploit and they won’t fight back, now who in their right mind wouldn’t take that offer.

I made a promise to all of you early in the blog that I would let the people who are to blame go nameless, so who are the examples of companies blatantly exploiting women today? These companies are only a drop in the bucket of sexist companies and brand names but I’d still like to bring a few to light…

petasexist

P.E.T.A.

lynx-ad-wash-mesexist

Axe

american_apparelsexist

American Apparel

goldstar_beer2sexist

Any brand of beer (this one is Goldstar)

remy-martin-adsexistskyysexist

Sorry, I mean any brand of alcohol (these are Remy Martin and Skyy Vodka)

It’s easy to see what these ads are trying to do, they aren’t selling you anything, because you can barely see the brand in any of them. I have to give them credit though, the companies who are pulling this shit are damn good at what they’re doing, and they know what they’re doing, hours are spent deciding how to place a person, how the lighting should be, the angle of everything. It all works together to say exactly what they want it to say. Companies strategically use women and their bodies to make money, but corporations aren’t the only ones profiting off of women. In part 2.1 of this series I’ll talk about the other part of the equation, the sex industry.

THE RULES

by C

I probably should’ve made this my first or second post, but it got put off so I’m doing it now. Whenever I refer to the “rules” this is what I’m talking about. We all know that there are unspoken rules of our society, it’s a feminist’s job to acknowledge these rules and try to get rid of them because it’s my belief that these rules are oppressive and impossible to follow. Since I’m big on simplicity and being direct, I thought it would be nice to have all these rules in one nice little place for all to see. These are the cultural mores (in order of importance and most serious consequences) for women:

Beauty:

  1. You must fit the current idea of beauty.
  2. You must be skinny, but only in the right places (no “thunder thighs”, “muffin top”, or flabby belly, but chest and ass have to be disproportionately larger)
  3. You must not have any blemishes or marks that make you look unique in anyway.
  4. You must be hairless except for your head and eyebrows, that hair is very important.
  5. You must be white.
  6. Your body must be “toned”.
  7. Your facial features must be child-like (big eyes, tiny nose, rosy cheeks, full lips)
  8. You must look effortless, as if you’ve attained your beauty naturally.

Relationships and Marriage:

  1. You must be concerned with marriage or a long term relationship, this is very important.
  2. You must be in a relationship.
  3. You must be straight (exception: homosexuality is okay if done in front of a male for his pleasure)
  4. You must want children.
  5. You must be “naggy”, bitchy, or moody.
  6. His pleasure is first, yours is only a convenience, it’s important you understand this.
  7. You are a natural caregiver, there are no exceptions.

Behavior:

  1. You must act feminine.
  2. Not only must you act feminine, but if you act masculine there will be serious consequences.
  3. You must act subservient.
  4. You must not be aggressive.
  5. You must act clueless at least once in awhile.
  6. You must be friendly and polite.
  7. You must say “sorry” on a regular basis even though you may not have done anything wrong.
  8. You must not genuinely like sports.
  9. You must smile.
  10. You must giggle.
  11. You must not do drugs or drink excessively.
  12. You must not try too hard or look as if you’re trying.

Other:

  1. You must like chocolate. (I mean really like chocolate)
  2. You must not pay for meals when in the presence of a man.
  3. You must have at least one childish obsession like Hello Kitty or Dora the Explorer.
  4. Your career must not be physical or a masculine associated job and if it is don’t expect to get a fair paycheck. (By masculine I mean any job that puts you in a position of power)
  5. Vaginas are gross and talking in positive terms about vaginas will have serious consequences.

Since I’m not a man and haven’t experienced that life I can’t put their rules up here, that just wouldn’t be genuine. So feel free to add your own rules in the comments if your a male because I know guys have rules too and not those stupid fucking ones like “Man Rules” that talk about how you can’t take pictures at a bachelor party, or say gay things when you’re working out. I’m sure these rules are going to be under constant revision and will constantly be growing so check back often.

All Women Are Created Equal (All Men Can Suck It)

by C

Equality is overrated, not only is it overrated but there will never be such a thing. Inequality is what gives the world initiative to be better, to one up the person you are inequal with. Inequality is what makes the world go round. Equity and liberation are what feminists are fighting for or at least should be fighting for.

I don’t believe men and women are that different, actually despite our genitalia I think we are almost exactly the same, but socialization is a powerful thing and it runs so deep in our culture that it has made an invisible line between men and women. We are different, the differences, however unnatural they may be, can only be reversed to a degree. I believe our ideas of femininity and masculinity and the pressure to conform to these standards can be reversed eventually (I’m talking hundreds of years). I believe there can be some sort of equality, I don’t think I’ll hit it in my lifetime but we’ll be close.

To reach that equality there is one fundamental thing that women must do, I don’t care about men I’ve given up on trying to convince myself that the majority of men actually give a shit about 51% of the population, but women need to give a shit about this kind of stuff, which right now, we don’t. We’re too busy judging and dividing ourselves and this antagonism does nothing but hurt the cause as a whole. In our own gender we create hierarchies, sluts and prudes, old and young, fat and skinny and through that we lower ourselves. We have to start caring about intelligence over what others are thinking of us or any of that bullshit which is so drilled into our brains it’s insane.

If it was up to me I would leave the culture that has let me down so much. But unfortunately there is no culture that I can find that’s not at least a little misogynistic. So what needs to be done is we have to not give a shit about, the things that are holding us down, that’s not to say that it will stop happening, but it needs to be out of our frame of mind, we need to focus on equity rather than equality and liberation rather than man-hating.

Top 5 Songs About Drugs

by C

Since this site is called Sex, Drugs and Feminism I feel that I have to represent the first two. I was going to do a list on the Top 5 songs about sex but here’s the thing, all songs about sex are incredibly immature (I’m looking at you Bloodhound Gang) so that idea went down the tubes, then I was thinking Top 5 songs about love but love songs are lame so…here are my top 5 songs about drugs.

Burn One Down – Ben Harper

Purple Haze was going to occupy this spot but I feel it’s been so overused as a drug song and Burn One Down seems to be so underused, it’s a damn good song, not much more you can say about that.

White Rabbit – Jefferson Airplane

Speaking of overused songs… I admit that this one can fit perfectly into that category but it is a really good song, no one can deny that, so it makes a spot on the list. Hippies loved their drugs and out of that love came shit loads of songs, so it’s difficult to keep the hippies off of these kinds of lists.

Walk on the Wild Side – Lou Reed

This song isn’t necessarily about drugs, but it’s just so mellow and calm so it’s perfect for all the druggies out there.

Sweet Leaf – Black Sabbath

This song is brilliant and most definitely underrated, Sabbath is genius at taking really easy catchy riffs and making a great song out of it, Sweet Leaf is one of those songs but it’s always put on the back burner behind Paranoid and Iron Man, but Sweet Leaf is one of my favourites.

Drugs Are Good – NOFX

This is the second time NOFX has come up on a list which is fucking lame but whatever. This song’s hilarious and is pretty good, it gets the #1 stop because it says drugs right in the fucking name and it’s catchy.

*Other notable drugs songs: The Pusher by Steppenwolf, Heroin by Velvet Underground, Smoke Two Joints by Sublime

YouTube Comments Are A Dangerous Thing…

It seems that everything arises from boredom, last night I was surfing YouTube and re-watching some feminist videos, some of which were the Ariel Levy videos, I posted one last week if you’re curious to see them and I scrolled down to read the comments and I see this:

“It is good that this lady is denouncing the sick socially destructive porn biz, but she does it from a feminist perspective. Feminism is ultimately as anti-woman as the porn. It is a reflection of the radical communist roots of the founders of so-called feminism. It is nothing but a rehashing of marxist theory.
This lady’s sort insists on talking about the developements (how ever disordered) of economics as though they were some ideological phenomenon. Economics arises from real human motives.”

Under the next video he continues to write :

“People have been inverting meaning for a long time. Unfortunately feminism is a typical example of the phenomenon. You read Betty Friedan or other early feminist, you find a (as far as I am concerned) a profound misogyny in them. Feminism was not about celebrating feminity but rejecting it. The very title “The Female Eunoch” is evocative of this. “The Femine Mystic” is a similar thing. Even seeing yourself as female is a false consciousness imposed on you.”

I thought this would be an excellent time to respond to all the people who think this, because I’ve heard these arguments more than once.

  1. Feminism is anti-woman and anti-femininity. Here the commenter is right and he’s wrong. Feminism is anti-femininity which is why “feminism” is sort of a misnomer. Femininity is a social construct, it’s a stereotype that all women are naturally feminine, I could even argue that no one is naturally feminine, just because I know I’m not feminine doesn’t mean I’m not female. As far as being anti-woman I can’t really argue with the commenter because he doesn’t really back up his argument there, but I can say this, feminism is anti-woman, because to want to be equal to men sells women short. To want to be equal to, but not strive to go further than, men says that women can do no better than men and that’s just plain bullshit.
  2. Feminism is Marxist. In the same way that’s McDonald’s is food. They both preach equality. Those are about the only similarities, other than that there’s nothing. As for the founders of feminism being Marxist, what the fuck?
  3. Early feminists are misogynistic. Wrong! The inherent problem with this guy’s argument is that he assumes that female and feminine are the same thing, under that assumption all his arguments would be less idiotic, but none the less wrong. To reject a stereotype of women is in no way rejecting women. To get even deeper into it, to reject porn (which is what the video he’s responding to is doing) is in no way rejecting women, it’s rejecting a society and a social role that gives women little choice and opportunity to be successful in anything other than porn.

So while this guy gave it a good try, it’s a no go. Sorry, try again.

Gods, Wads, and Tila Tequila Part 1

In the book Guns, Germs, and Steel Jared Diamond tries to explain his theory on how the world came to be, with Europe and North America being prosperous and wealthy while continents like Africa are left in extreme poverty. He explains this with three words, guns, germs, and steel. I’ve often stayed up wondering why, in nearly every continent, men are given all the power while women are second in command, just before children and the GPS. I think this too can be explained in three words, Gods, wads, and Tila Tequila. Gods meaning religion, wads being the profit motive behind women’s oppression, and the last part is Tila Tequila where I’ll talk about how women don’t only agree with and promote their own oppression but they think it’s “hot”. This is the first part in my three part series trying to explain why oppression of women still exists.

Gods

*Disclaimer* In this post I’m discussing Christianity because it’s the most practiced religion in North America. I don’t, nor will I ever, claim to know anything about Islam, Buddism, Scientology, etc.

Religion has and still plays a huge part in why women are second class. I’m not debating whether there is or isn’t a God, I’m not here to argue with anyone’s God, because it’s irrelevant to my point. All I know is that the Bible exists and that it’s the best selling book in North America. I’m also under the impression that the Bible has many followers and many take its word as God’s word. That’s 78.5% of Americans and 70.3% of Canadians. Either way if you’re a woman that means you are absolutely, positively fucked.

Okay, let’s go way, way back. To when religion was invented. Religion was invented for one sole purpose, power. Power over both men and women, but mostly women. When trying to convince people that you should be given the power to oppress and rule over them, what better reference can you get than God? Gwynne Dyer says it better than I ever could, but I’m going to try and simplify his theory. The world begins, BOOM, people evolve into what we call cavemen, the goal is survival of the species, which means reproduction is very important therefore women are respected for their reproductive abilities and their gathering of plants and things to eat, but men are also respected for their hunting abilities. Both genders bring things to the table and are thus equal. BOOM, women invent agriculture and farming, there is no longer a need for hunting and men are put to the way side. This is the closest that our society got to matriarchal society though it wasn’t necessarily matriarchal because women never oppressed men, the genders just naturally worked together. These “autonomous villages” as Gwynne Dyer calls them, became the norm of upper Africa and Lower Europe. Due to the success of these villages there was a population boom, villages join with each other and resources get thin. What to do when you have little resources and lots of people? Two things, there needs to be some sort of order (invention of hierarchies) and you need to fight to get resources from other states. FINAL BOOM, the invention of militarization and religion. Religion came into existence for many reasons, children is a big reason. Around that time it was difficult to know if a child was yours if you were a man, to stop that monogamy was invented (brought to you by God). Once you have monogamous relationships in a patriarchy you can decide how many children you have and know that they are, for sure, yours. This was pushed on because with militarization meant you needed a lot of soldiers, a state couldn’t afford to lose women for the fact that they provided more children and more soldiers to that state, so emphasis was put on the importance of having male children. So just to do a review, men finally had some importance to a society after thousands of year of being unimportant. Pretty good, right? Another reason religion helped the leaders of the states keep power was because it convinced the soldiers to fight for an otherwise unjust cause, if this was just the pre-life to an even greater life than hell yeah I’ll go fight in your war. Religion was an easy sell to the male citizens of these states, I imagine the conversation went down something like this:

Male Leader: “Hello citizens of (insert name of ancient civilization here), here’s how things will be from now on, men will be given all the power in the household..”

Male Citizen: “But why, that makes no sense?”

Male Leader: “Because you will be able to enter into a monogamous relationship meaning you control how many children you have and when, all your possessions and name will be passed down though the sons of the family and you will be able to control the women of our state, this will all happen if you just allow me to control the whole state, deal?”

Male Citizen: “I don’t know…”

Male Leader: “God said so”

Male Citizen: “Where do I sign?”

It worked out very well as a war tactic and from then on life changed dramatically. For a way better explanation of that theory check out Gwynne Dyer’s documentary on it called the Human Race.

The bible has never taken too kindly to the womenfolk. It’s hard to say why, but it could be blamed on Eve’s hunger for knowledge (sorry, her easily swayed, childish mind) in which God responds with a “you fucking bitch!” and rewards her with eternal suffering for all women (which includes the pain of childbirth, periods, and to serve under man forever, what a gift basket!). The rest of the bible follows that same format, women suck because they always need someone to look after them or else they’ll get into their conniving ways, all seducing and what not. The story is told over and over again and the message is quite clear, women can’t be trusted. The women that can be trusted are rarely talked about (in any other way than how you would describe cattle). They are property, plain and simple. I normally wouldn’t give two shits and a rat’s ass about any of this, there are plenty of places, magazines, and t.v. shows that say the exact same thing as the bible and I don’t waste my time with them, but when 70% of the people around me believe this to be the word of God, that scares me.

There isn’t any reference to human beings as a whole, as far as God is concerned men are the only real human beings, women are in a limbo between human beings and animals. They are treated and regarded as such, with the only few traits that relate to man, but the mental capacity and will power of something sub-human. Even the physical traits of women are never described in relation to men, emphasis is always put on the things that are so different from men, hair, breasts, and shape are all talked about. There isn’t much wiggle room for the women of the bible their only purpose is their biological one, they can be mothers, wives, daughters and sisters, you won’t be described as much else if you are a woman, while men are described as prophets, kings, farmers, carpenters, and every other job under the sun. In other words, they are described by their accomplishments rather than by their biological role.

That reflects perfectly in modern times, how many times in the real world are women boiled down to two things, wife material or a good fuck. The bible invented that dichotomy for god’s sake! The virgin and the whore. Where else but the bible could they create a virgin mother, the epitome of absolute innocence, perfect. But wait, a man has needs. Enter the whore, now that is perfect. Our view of women today is a transformation of the idealistic realities in the bible. It’s terrifying to see how long this dichotomy has been around and is still incredibly prominent today. Women are either baby making machines or prostitutes, except in the bible there was a clear distinction between the two, a woman would never be both. But today, the demands for women to be both virgin and whore are visible all around us, especially in the media.

Tradition is incredibly hard (if not impossible) to break, especially if you get that tradition from God’s mouth. Which is why this view of women has lasted so long and will continue until some dramatic change.
